Aramean people: Aramean people (not to be confused with ‘Armenians’) speak Aramaic, the language spoken by Abraham, Moses and Jesus. They are the indigenous people of what was called in ancient times Aram- Nahrin, in our days it is called ‘Mesopotamia’.

Some Arameans today identify themselves with “Assyrians”, because of the spiritual colonial hate generating activities of the Western missionaries and diplomats in the Middle-East in 16th and 19th centuries. Other Arameans became known as “Chaldeans”. However all of them are Arameans.

Iraq and Arameans: The usual ritual, blowing up their churches

Monday august 15, 2011: West- Aramean Syrian Orthodox church in Kirkuk heavily damaged by a bomb attack.

Dutch Version

Monday 15th of august 2011, they were at it again in Iraq and the Arameans were targeted for the such-and-such time by the terrorists. This time, the West- Aramean Syrian Orthodox church in Kirkuk, north of Iraq, was heavily damaged by bomb attack. Fortunately there were no victims.

This is the such-and-such cowardice attack on the peaceful minded Arameans of Iraq to completely clean the country of its original inhabitants.

The Arameans do not consider anyone as their enemy, they want to live in peace with others and wish to contributed to the country building. Unfortunately, this policy of peaceful cooperation is answered with burning their churches, raping of their women and daughters and killing of their clergy by the forces of intolerance and fanaticism. The Aramean indigenous nation, also made known in some media as “Assyrians” or “Chaldeans”, are the original inhabitants of this part of the world. Unfortunately, now the Aramean have become strangers in their own indigenous lands and because of fanaticism and intolerance many of them have left the lands of their forefathers, they inhabited for thousands of year.

The Arameans of Aram-Naharaim Organization is extremely worried about the situation of the Arameans of Iraq. The Aramean nation of Iraq (including “Assyrians” and Chaldeans), find themselves in very fragile situation. The Arameans are marginalized and threatened with ethnic cleansing. Due to undiminished persecutions, killings, plundering and attacks, many Arameans have already left Iraq.

The Aram-Naharaim Organization raised its voice in several letters and reports to the international organizations and governments to ask for their attention to the fragile situation of the Aramean nation of Iraq. We mention few examples:

23-3-2010: Letter to the United Nations on the situation of the Arameans of Iraq:

29-8-2007: Letter to the government of Iraq:

Because of their fragile position combined with lack of adequately functioning security apparatus, the Arameans are an easy target for powers who intend to cleanse Iraq of its original inhabitants who have been present in this part of the world since thousands of years.

Before the war of 2003, there were around 800.000 Arameans in Iraq. Probably more than half of them have left the country. The attacks on their churches and leaders chased the Arameans out of Iraq.

Ritual……..

West- Arameans Syrian Catholic Church in Kirkuk attacked on 2-8-2011

West- Aramean Syrian Orthodox church in Kirkuk attacked on 15-8-2011

It has become now a sort of ritual. Almost each time the Arameans of Iraq are mentioned in the media, it is about killings, ethnic cleansing or blowing up of their churches. The local and national governments of Iraq issue statements in which they condemn the terrorist acts and promise to protect their indigenous Aramean Christian fellow countrymen. And that is it, nothing else is being done. The government remain silent on the promises which they made and wait until next terror attack to repeat the previous statements and promises.

The situation for the Aramean indigenous nation of Iraq, also made known as “Assyrians” or Chaldeans, is extra alarming because in contrast to other groups they do not have their own militia to defend themselves. Therefore they rely on the protection by the Iraqi government, which unfortunately fails to offer adequate protection to prevent such cowardice attack by the forces of the evil.

The vulnerable position of the Arameans of Iraq makes them an easy target for the Islamic terrorists who wish to clean Iraq of the “unclean” and “uncircumcised” ones. However, also ordinary criminals and thieves eagerly use the power-vacuum to wheedle them out of money.

Colonialism: Main cause of the Aramean downfall

Another point is that the Arameans themselves are to be blamed for their terrible situation as well. And this has to do with the horrible mutual hatred and division which was planted in the hearts and minds of a part of the Aramean nation by the Western Catholics and Protestants, in the name of faith and brotherhood, causing an unspeakable damage to the Aramean nation.

And this colonial demonic hatred dear reader, is even so deep and odious that it prevents the Arameans to join the hands, necessary in these difficult times. The colonial hatred and division is today even being stimulated by some of those who call themselves “Christians” in order to make converts among the weak and defenseless Arameans. The enemy of Jesus Christ of the Bible every time seems to succeed, in particular acting as a fake Jesus, to create a carnivorous division and hatred among the followers of the real Jesus of the Bible. This “secret” vicious technology has been extensively used by the Catholics as well as Protestants with horrendous consequences for the Aramean indigenous nation.

East- Aramean Chaldean bishop of Kirkuk, Louis Sako

The East- Aramean Chaldean bishop of Kirkuk, Louis Sako is lamenting about the situation of Arameans of Iraq. He visited the place of attack and says, “"I saw many people in the church when I was there. They were so very tired and shocked. They were asking: 'Why our church? What is the reason? What do they want from us?'"

In the past we elaborated in detail on the question “Why?” Please find here below some of our analyses:

http://www.aramnahrin.org/English/Glorification_PKK_GHB_ADO_Terrorist_19_6_2010.htm#5_1

The point is that the cause to the present troubles in Iraq can be traced to the past history of our nation. The Arameans seem not to realize of the seriousness of their situation and try to shirk the responsibility of their terrible situation to others and seem not to understand that there is a powerful God who is in control of everything. He says, I am everywhere -- both near and far,   24 in heaven and on earth. There are no secret places where you can hide from me” (Jeremiah 23:23-24)

And our people unfortunately have never tried to understand why this Almighty God is not protecting them against the evil forces of abyss who attack their churches, rape their women, kill their men, assume their properties and expel them out of their indigenous lands.

As long as the Arameans of  Middle-East, including Iraq, do not get rid of abominable colonial hatred which has been planted in their hearts and return back to the God of Abraham, Isaak and Jacob Who showed Himself to the world in Christ Jesus, they will remain as slaves and serve other peoples. The majority of  Diaspora Arameans are totally unaware of the cause to their Diaspora and are immediately ready to blame others for their problems without ever trying to examine themselves to understand the real reason behind their Diaspora and try to find a solution for it. The situation as it is like now, unfortunately we have to fear worst! Neither the blind people, nor ignorant leaders seem to be aware of severity of their situation.
